Change of Fire Season to Restricted Date Posted: Feb 20, 2018

Restricted Fire Season Now in Force as from 22 February 2018!

All areas in Marlborough/Kaikoura district will be RESTRICTED Fire Season as from 0800hrs Thursday 22 February 2018, this means you need a permit to have a fire in the open.

Fire Permits are required for all fires on Public Conservation Land other than for an approved campground fire or a fire lit for cooking or warmth.

If you have been burning over winter check that pile of ash, dig into it, it may still be hot.

If you lit a fire before the Restrictions came in and it’s still smouldering or burning you need a permit.

Fires that do not require a fire permit in a Restricted Fire Season

  • Any fire with a fully enclosed firebox such as an outside burner, pizza ovens, solid fuel BBQ, hot tub, hot tubs etc.

  • Braziers with a tray to catch the falling embers

  • All must have at least 2m clearance from dry material

  • Incinerator – which incorporates a chimney and a spark arrestor

Enjoy the summer and if in doubt about the Fire season status go to
