We did it! 13 members from the Marlborough District registered a team, aka “FENZ & Friends”, to participate in Relay for Life on 23 & 24 February 2019. Teams set up camp and took turns relay style walking/running around a track for 14 hours while we enjoyed a carnival atmosphere of live music, entertainment, games, activities and fantastic community camaraderie.
We felt very special to be part of this worthy cause raising funds for the Cancer Society. The organisers had a fundraising target of $100,000 to ensure that Cancer Society Marlborough could continue to provide vital, free support services and information for people gong through cancer. The good news is that we managed to fundraise $116,000. We, as a team, raised a massive $6,780! The event commenced at 04:00pm on Saturday 23 February and finished at 06:00am on the Sunday morning.
We wish to thank all the organisers, sponsors, survivors, supporters and teams for making this a very special event. We invited one of our volunteers, Lavina White, to walk the first lap with other survivors and supporters. Lavina is a logistics member of the Incident Management Team for Marlborough.
