Daylight Savings is coming, time to check your smoke alarms are working! Date Posted: Sep 3, 2019

Daylight saving starts when clocks go forward by 1 hour at 2am on 29 September 2019.

When was the last time you pushed the test button? If your smoke alarm is older than 10 years you should replace it. Check the date on the rear of the alarm.

There are some options when it comes to replacing smoke alarms, for example the 10 year long life battery or the standard 9 volt battery models that require replacing annually.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s recommendation is to purchase “Photoelectric Smoke Alarms” with a 10 year long life battery. These can be purchased from all hardware stores along with other retailers that sell smoke alarms.
